Registrary's Office

Welcome to the Registrary's Office

Positioned at the hub of major decision-making in the University, the RO promotes effective governance by giving support and advice in a transparent and approachable manner to ensure the smooth running of the University’s administrative and governance processes. We support the good government of the University (including the academic self-government of the University through the Regent House); assure the efficient and effective functioning of the most important of the central institutions (including the Council and its Committees); support the most senior officers of the University in their strategic leadership; and assure appropriate legal risk management and compliance with legal and other obligations binding on the University. Project management, expectation management, identification and handling of major challenges and the dissemination of knowledge within and outside the University are core aspects of our work.

Our day-to-day activities are wide-ranging and include: overseeing the running of the University’s governance arrangements; statutory and regulatory compliance (including information compliance, risk management and continuity planning, emergency management, audit, value for money); student matters (including discipline and the oversight of the student unions). We play a key role in managing relations between the University and the Cambridge Colleges, and between the University and the Cambridge University Students' Union and the Graduate Union. The Draftsman's Office is responsible for producing the University's official publications, which include Statutes and Ordinances and Cambridge University Reporter and for the new Governance website. The Draftsman’s Office maintains the Roll of the Regent House, which details membership of the University's governing body and principal electoral constituency.
