Incident Management and Business Continuity Policy

The University's updated Incident Management and Business Continuity Policy was approved by the Council and General Board in January 2023 (further details are available here). The Policy is available as a web document or can be downloaded as a pdf.

In accordance with the policy, the University has its own institution-wide plan and every institution must have a local plan (see below).

University Emergency Management Plan

The University Emergency Management Plan (UEMP) operates at an institution-wide level. It can be invoked directly in response to a major or widespread incident or as the result of a local management team asking for help in responding to an emergency. The format of the UEMP adopts the principles of Gold (Strategic), Silver (Tactical) and Bronze (Operational) levels of response to any emergency, enabling it to mirror the procedures used by the emergency services and local authorities in the event of an emergency. This will allow better coordination with those external agencies in the event of a major incident. Note that the UEMP is due to be replaced by an updated University Incident Management Plan.

Incident Management and Business Continuity Plan

Faculties, Departments and Non School Institutions have their own plans consistent with, and complementary to, the University Emergency Management Plan. An Incident Management and Business Continuity template is available for University institutions to use locally.  The template is accompanied by Guidance on completing the IMBCP. Old EAPs are required to be transferred to the new template by 1 January 2024, when the Policy comes into effect. The initial work in moving EAPs over to the new plan will be carried out centrally by the Governance and Compliance Division. Once initial plans are prepared, the team will liaise with institutions on completing the details. For further information please contact Clara East via incidentmanagement@admin.cam.ac.uk.
